    We provide a variety of surgical services, including:

    Orthopedic- Our doctors have decades of experience in a variety of orthopedic surgical techniques, including: 
                    Cranial Cruciate Rupture Repair
                    Patellar Luxation Repair
                    Long Bone Fracture Management
                    Mandible and other oral surgery
                    Fore and Hind Limb Amputation

    Soft Tisssue- Diseases and injuries of the skin, muscle, and internal organs occasionally require surgery to diagnose and treat.  Our doctors are able to perform: 
      
                    Abdominal Exploratory Surgery
                    Intestinal and Gastric Foreign Body Removal
                    Splenectomy (removal of the spleen)
                    Cystotomy (to remove bladder stones and diagnose bladder cancer)
                    Liver, kidney, intestinal, and lymph node biopsies
                    Ocular (eye) surgery
                    Removal of growths and tumors of the skin, fat, and muscle

                    Spay/Neutering
     

    An important component of any surgical procedure is the anesthesia, which often creates anxiety among pet owners.  At Aspetuck Animal Hospital, we take every precaution and carefully monitor to make sure that your pet’s anesthetic episode goes as smoothly and safely as possible. 

    Procedures we include in every anesthesia we perform are:

                    Pre-anesthesia lab work: This (along with a thorough physical examination) makes sure that all your pet’s internal organs are functioning normally or, if they are not, will give us the necessary information so that we can modify the anesthesia to make the episode safe.
                    Constant monitoring of your pet by a veterinary technician and by a machine that includes the following: 
                    Continuous electrocardiogram (ECG or EKC): This machine tells us how your pet’s heart is acting electrically.
                    Pulse Oximetry: This machine measures the oxygen concentration in your pet’s blood.
                    Respiratory monitor
                    Temperature monitor
                    Warmed IV fluids to support the brain, kidneys, and other organs while maintaining core body temperature. Having an IV catheter in place also allows us to give necessary injections immediately in the unlikely event that a problem arises during the anesthesia.

    Pain relief appropriate to the procedure performed. This may include: 
                    Local or regional nerve blocks
                    Systemic anti-inflammatories
                    A pre-medication to provide pain relief throughout and after the procedure as well as to reduce the anxiety your pet has prior to the start of anesthesia.
